An inspector and three police constables attached to the HAL police station were suspended on Friday for taking a bribe of Rs three lakh from a person convicted previously of mobile phone thefts.
DCP (South East) T D Pawar said Inspector Rajesh and constables Venkatesh, Dinesh and Bheem Singh were suspended on charges of taking bribe from Javed, arrested in theft cases two years ago and who had served punishment. He is now said to be leading a clean life. But the policemen allegedly harassed him and demanded Rs three lakh as bribe.
They threatened to book a case against him if he refused to pay, said the DCP. After paying them Rs three lakh on Wednesday, Javed approached the DCP. During investigations, the inspector and the constables confessed to the crime, he said.
