Youth lured towards 'sex' on FB; assaulted and robbed

Last Updated 24 January 2014, 22:40 IST

Yelwal police have busted an online racket of luring gullible customers in the name of call girls, only to rob them later. While the kingpin has been arrested, the search is on for remaining three to four persons suspected to be involved in the ring.

In his complaint to police, Sujan (name changed) a businessman from Srirampura here had alleged that he was robbed of his gold chain (100 grams) and Rs 40,000 in cash, by a gang of four to five on January 10. The prime accused in the case identified as Sulaiman from Hoskote in Kushalnagar, Kodagu district is arrested.

How Sujan walked into their trap is an interesting story. Sujan came across a posting on his Facebook. It read ‘A call girl in your city. If you want a girl contact me’.  Sujan who contacted the number, was asked by the person to come to a designated spot at Yelwal. When Sujan went to the spot, he was asked to get inside a car to reach the girls. Once inside the car, he was allegedly beaten up by three to four men seated inside. They also jeered at him saying ‘hudgi beka hudgi... (do you need girls?)’. They allegedly stripped him of his valuable and cash, before abandoning him after travelling three to four km in the car.

Sujan who somehow reached the police station same day, lodged a complaint. Acting on the leads, the police traced Sulaiman. He has been remanded in judicial custody.
Women rescued

In a joint operation, Vijaynagar police and activists of Odanadi, a NGO, raided a house in KHB colony, Hootagalli here on Friday and rescued four women from immoral trafficking. Three men have been arrested. The rescued girls hail from West Bengal and Mumbai. The women have been sent to Shaktidhama a women’s rehabilitation centre on Nanjangud-Ooty road.
