He was speaking after laying the foundation stone to the Rs 1.17 crore worth road development project in the limits of Tovinakere village of Koratagere taluk, here on Friday.
The National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme was one of the best schemes of the Union government. Lots of grants are being released for development purpose to the villages which come under the Gram Panchayat limits, the MLA explained.

The officials should ensure that these grants should be properly utilised for the proper implementation of the programme. They should strive towards providing basic facilities to the villagers and also see to it that the money was not leaked unnecessarily. The officials should give more focus on providing facilities to agriculture, drainage system, road development, school development, irrigation, horticulture, drinking water facility, etc. If these things were given top priority and implemented efficiently, the villages will be automatically on the development map, he explained.

Crores of rupees were being spent on rural development and the National Rural Development Employment Scheme was one among them, MLA said.

The success of the scheme largely depended on the presidents of the Gram Panchayats, the secretaries, the contractors and the workers, who should ensure that the scheme was effectively implemented for the benefit of the people, Dr Parameshwar explained.
