The Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has received a hoax e-mail that some unknown group has planted a bomb at Kempegowda International Airport.

According to BIAL police, the airport terminal received an e-mail on January 24 from a certain George Moris stating that an “unactivated” bomb had been planted at the airport and an individual would activate it on the directions of some senior handlers of a group.
The individual is waiting for the directions and would activate the bomb, the e-mail claimed.

A statement from the BIAL said: “As per the procedure, a meeting of the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) was convened at the airport. After assessing the threat and conducting a search of the entire airport, the BTAC termed the threat ‘non-specific’. An FIR was filed with the Airport police and all airlines and partners were alerted. Vigilant security was implemented for Republic Day and this will continue till January 31. Airport operations are being carried out as usual.”

A senior police officer said, “We are looking into the matter and trying to trace the origin of the e-mail. We are also trying to track down the individual with the name George Moris, but we are not sure if he is the actual person who sent the e-mail or his e-mail ID was hacked by some unknown miscreants. It was a hoax and strict measures have been implemented across the airport to avoid any untoward incident.”
