The Byatarayanapura police have arrested five people – Hidayat, 25, and Shabeer, 22, of Shamanna Garden; Noorullah, 28, of Padarayanapura, Nayaz, 24, and Tipu Khan, 22, of Gangondanahalli — on the charge of murdering a man over a petty issue.

Police said the suspects hacked Imtiyaz, 30, to death over a petty issue at Shamma Garden 8th Cross on January 24. Imtiyaz, who was working with Gadda Sadique, a private moneylender, used to “harass” those who had taken loans from Sadique and had not paid or delayed repayment, the police said. Hidayat was working for Ali who used to work out a compromise whenever there were quarrels with the borrowers. Over a period of time, he developed rivalry with Imtiyaz and “connived” with others and “murdered” him, the police added.

Gold recovered

Mahalakshmi Layout police have recovered around three kg of gold biscuits and gold ornaments by arresting Chaluvaraju, 32, a former employee of Ashirvad Jewellers on Richmond Road. The police, who took him into custody on finding him moving suspiciously in Mahalakshmi Layout recently, recovered  1 kg of gold biscuits and quizzed him about its source. He told the police that he collected the gold from Jayanthi who had stocked several such biscuits. The police raided her house and recovered the valuables.

Chaluvaraju had quit his job 10 months ago. Police Commissioner Raghavendra H Auradkar said they were ascertaining whether the duo had stolen the gold or was part of a smuggling racket.
