Doubles specialist Ashwini Ponnappa entered the second round of qualifying in the women’s singles category of the Canara Bank All-India Senior Ranking badminton tournament at the KBA Courts here.
The opening day of the championship witnessed over 300 matches in the qualifying rounds of four events, but the biggest surprise was Ashwini’s match in the singles category. The Commonwealth Games doubles gold medallist posted a 15-8, 15-6 win over a hapless Siri Chandana to march into the second round of qualifying event.
