Centre rejects 200 crore proposal

Hopes of the Mandya district administration, to develop popular tourism destinations in the district, has suffered a major setback, with the Centre rejecting a Rs 200 crore proposal for tourism development.

This is also a setback for Housing Minister Ambareesh, who was hoping for a clearance for the project, considering his proximity with the Union Tourism Minister and Telugu film actor Chiranjeevi.

It can be recalled that Ambareesh had sought funds from the Centre for tourism development, following which Chiranjeevi has asked Ambareesh to submit a proposal before the ministry, in August, last.

A proposal for Rs 200 crore, with projects to develop destinations of historic and ecological importance, such as Srirangapatna, Ranganathaswamy temple, Krishanrajasagar reservoir, Ranganthittu and Kokkarebellur bird sanctuaries, Gaganachukki falls and others were submitted to the Union Tourism Ministry, through the State government.

Funds to lay roads to tourist destinations, development of tourism centres and facilities for tourists was also sought in the proposal.DH News Service
