Every evening one has to stand in a queue for over half-an-hour to reach the screening area of the Indraprastha Metro station. Reason the entry and exit being only on one side of the station.

Metro commuters complain that it causes them a lot of inconvenience especially during rush hours. “Almost every alternate day I take Metro from Indraprastha station. And every time I have to go through the tiring process of standing in long serpentine queue,” said Rakesh Malhotra, an east Delhi resident. “Sometimes seeing the rush, I don’t even feel like taking the Metro.”

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said the entry and exit on the other side is closed due to security issues. “The station has one entry exit always,” a DMRC spokesperson said. Passengers said if the other side cannot be made functional then at least more personnel should be deployed to tackle rush.

“If the DMRC can’t open the other entry and exit points, then authorities can make other arrangements like more spots for frisking of travellers,” said Gautam, a 21-year-old college student.

“During rush hours one can’t imagine to enter the station. It’s a pain standing in long queues, why can’t the authorities see that?” he added.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) said it has asked its staff to take measures to deal with rush on the screening area. “Our personnel have been told to tackle the rush. We will deploy another official to frisk commuters,” said a CISF spokesperson. The CISF looks after the security of Metro stations.DH News Service
