The two-day conference on Lifestyle Management and Wellness, sponsored by the UGC, concluded here at the Malleswaram Ladies Association First Grade College for women with eminent sporting personalities voicing their opinions on the central theme of the interactive session: Challenges faced by national and international sportsperson.

“In the 10th standard I had to make a choice (sport or education) but I had convinced my parents that I wanted to take up sport. For me, it was not to choose one or the other. Both are needed to grow,” opined Vijay Lancy, former international badminton player.

The two-day conference essentially focused on the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle through sport, physical activity and yoga. The other prominent personalities who spoke included Jude Felix, former Olympic hockey player, Niveditha Rajan, sports psychologist, TR Balachandran, a coach at the Prakash Padukone badminton academy and Sachin S Belvadi, the State women’s basketball coach.

Felix said that the main difference between sport in India and abroad is the administration aspect.  “Administration is meticulously planned abroad in sport but we do not do that,” he pointed out.

Former basketball international Nandini Basappa was one of the guest of honours for the valedictory function.
