Boy killed in mishap, villagers protest

A boy was killed on the spot after he was knocked down by a lorry at Horatti village on NH 234 in Mudigere on Tuesday.

According to the police, the deceased is Aditya (11), son of Paravtheeshwara Temple priest B K Shankarkannaraya. The accident occurred when he was on his way to get milk and newspaper from a shop near to his house in the morning. The lorry, belonging to a person in Kerala, was said to be transporting vegetables from Mangalore to Chikmagalur. The police said that the lorry driver and cleaner are absconding. The lorry, in an attempt to overtake another lorry, hit the boy who was walking on the footpath. The intensity of the accident was such that , the boy was thrown 20 feet away and died on the spot, said eye witness to Deccan Herald.

After the post mortem, the body was handed over to the family members. The last rights were performed at his village. A case has been registered in Banakal Police station.
As the news on the accident spread, a large number of villagers staged a protest demanding safety to pedestrians and to pay compensation to the parents of Aditya.  In fact, the villagers had decided to stage a protest on the NH.  

The villagers submitted a petition to the Inspector to take action against the vehicle driver, who cross the speed limits. Holiday was declared to Vidyabharathi School, Banakal, where the boy was studying.
