Jain University overall champions

Hosts winners in five events

Hosts Jain University were crowned as overall champions at the VIE-2014 all-India sports meet on Thursday.

Apart from emerging triumphant in five categories (men’s and women’s swimming competitions, women’s table tennis, badminton and basketball competitions), they also finished as runners-up in two events (men’s basketball as well as badminton) to walk away as overall champions at the meet.

In the men’s hockey competition, Surana College clinched the gold while DB Jain College took the silver and Jain University bagged the bronze.

Surana College’s Mustaq was adjudged the best player in the hockey event.

Satyabhama University grabbed the gold in the men’s volleyball event and were followed by VEL’s University in the silver medal position. DB Jain College had to be content with the bronze medal.

Best player: Agu (Hindustan University).
Table tennis: BNMIT, 1; RV College of engineering, 2; Jain University, 3; Christ University, 4.
Best player: Ashwin H (BNMIT).
Tennis: SJCC, 1; Hindustan University, 2; Jain University, 3;
Best player: Rohan Gaontkar (SJCC).
Swimming: Jain University, 1; VIT, 2.
Best swimmer: Chethan (Columbia).
Hockey: Surana College, 1; DB Jain College, 2; Jain University, 3; Christ University, 4.
Best player: Mustaq (Surana College).
Volleyball: Sathyabhama University, 1; VEL’s University, 2; DB Jain College, 3; Jain University, 4.
Best player: Jemson Anthony (Sathyabhama University).
Cricket: Alvas, 1; Hindustan University, 2.
Best player: Naveen Shetty (Alvas).
Women: Badminton: Jain University, 1; SSN College of engineering, 2.
Best player: Jacqueline Rose Kunnath (Jain University).
Basketball: Jain University, 1; MOP Vaishnav, 2; Hindustan University, 3; Christ University, 4.
Best player: Susmitha.
