Minister opens tappers' co-op society

Speaking after inaugurating the Commercial Complex and Central office of the Tappers Service Cooperative Society at Kota here on Tuesday, he said that the farmers in the State are receiving loans at 3 per cent interest and it is the same in case of weavers and fishermen. Government has introduced Vaidyanathan Committee recommendations to strengthen the Cooperative sector. Besides, government has completely stopped intervening in the affairs of the Cooperative banking sector obliging the demand, he added.

The Cooperative movement should be further strengthened and members should work in the direction. There are as many as 2 crore members in the Cooperative sector, he said.

Speaking after inaugurating the Locker Room, Food and Civil Supplies Minister H Halappa said that the tappers in the State are facilitated with loans of Rs 10,000 at 4 per cent interest rate, of which 50 per cent will be subsidy, he added. Earlier, Home Minister Dr V S Acharya inaugurated the Banking section in the Central Office.

President of Karnataka State Cooperative Apex Bank Limited, Bangalore, M N Rajendra Kumar, MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, Udupi District Cooperative Union President Kishen Hegde Kolkebailu and others were present.
