Karavali Jeevanadi Netravati Rakshana Samiti  leader Vijay Kumar Shetty has said that the Dakshina Kannada bandh on Monday had received overwhelming response from the public and the protest should continue till the project is dropped.

Speaking to mediapersons, he said that all the organisations that had supported the bandh should issue statements related to the issue and hold protest daily, so that the government understnads the gravity of the situation. “The legal fight against the proposed project will continue and the petition has been admitted in the High Court, which will come for hearing shortly.”

Terming the DPR of the project as bogus, Shetty said that the project is meant for making money for the politicians and officials. The Karnataka Neeravari Nigama had prepared a DPR meant for drinking water project. Normally, Nigama prepares action plan for irrigation project. There is ambiguity in the whole project report.

M G Hegde said that the government has felt the gravity of the situation. He urged U T Khader to tender resignation to the post of District-in-Charge Minister of Kolar. Do not try to cross a river in two boats. If he fails to support DK people and tries to appease Kolar residents, then he will have to lose his seat in Dakshina Kannada,” he said.

All College Students Union legal advisor Dinakar Shetty said that the Union will disrupt all the public prgrammes that are attended by Union Minister Veerappa Moily and former CM D V Sadananda Gowda in DK. “The duo have cheated the people of the district, by supporting the Yettinahole project,” he added.
