The CCB police have achieved a major breakthrough in connection with the murder of C N Srinivas, husband of Devasandra (Ward 55) Corporator R Manjula Devi, by picking up four suspects.

A special team picked up Pratap, Nagaraj, Navin and Mohan, in Tamil Nadu and brought them to Bangalore for interrogation, a police official said. The police are likely to complete the interrogation and may arrest them in a day or two. “We feel that these four youths executed the murder at the behest of the mastermind and fled in a car to Tamil Nadu,” he said.

“One more is still at large and it is a matter of time before we lay our hands on him,” he added. Close analysis of a CCTV camera on the road, near the murder spot, captured some youth wandering suspiciously minutes before the murder. They resembled those picked up, police said.

The information given by victim’s family members also helped. They alleged that Ajith, a rowdy-sheeter with Ramamurthynagar Police, was part of the conspiracy, police said adding there is no credible evidence so far to prove his involvement.

The police have collected credible leads to establish that those who made a bid on Srinivas’ life in April 2013 were involved in his murder. Earlier, it was thought the murder was committed by some other gang, but it now appears that those involved in a bid on Srinivas life a year ago were part of his murder.

“We are yet to arrest those responsible for the incident. We have interrogated 18 persons so far. The murder seems to have a link with a bid on Srinivas’ life a year ago,” Additional Commissioner (Law & Order) Kamal Pant said. The murder might have taken place over real estate and political reasons, he added.

“We have almost reached the target and there should be some development in a couple of days,” Additional Commissioner (Crime) Pranob Mohanty said. It was a deep-rooted conspiracy and the police might pick up the conspirators as well, he added.
