Fresh PMK demand pushes ties with BJP to the brink

Last Updated 11 March 2014, 22:05 IST

Unhappy over the allocation of seats, the Ramadoss-led Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) is all set to snap its ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), even as party president Rajnath Singh is expected to visit Chennai on Wednesday to work out a solution.

Despite settling for eight seats earlier, the PMK is said to have unexpectedly raised its demand to 12 seats. In the latest round of talks, the PMK is said to have insisted on 12 seats, threatening to walk out of the alliance if the BJP refuses to accede to it.

Ramadoss is also reportedly irked by the red-carpet treatment accorded to actor-turned politician Vijayakanth, with the BJP agreeing to allocate all the seats the DMDK had wanted.
