Only if you have three hours to kill

3 Days to Kill
English (A) ¬
Director: McG
Cast: Kevin Costner, Hailee Steinfeld, Amber Heard

When a low-budget film desperately tries to make up for its shortcomings, it comes dangerously close to making an exciting movie experience a buzzkill to its audience.
In a movie with a protagonist that is overly reminiscent of Liam Neeson’s character
in Taken, Kevin Costner plays Ethan Renner, an experienced and ailing CIA agent whose job distanced him from his family.

After his persistent cough turns out to be incurable cancer that will kill him in three months, Ethan tries to reconnect with his estranged daughter Zoey (Hailee Steinfeld) and wife Christine (Connie Nielson).

On travelling to Paris to meet Christine and Zoey, Ethan encounters elite CIA agent Vivi Delay (Amber Heard).

Having vowed to leave his hit man days behind, Ethan is in a fix when Vivi offers him a possible cure for his cancer in return for killing “The Wolf” –an arms trafficker who is about to sell a dangerous radiological weapon.

Behind his wife’s back, Ethan tries to track down the wolf and kill him in exchange for a possibly longer life and more time with his family.

The film has too many loopholes and implausible premises. The performance of capable actors is handicapped by shallow and dull characters.

Forced humour runs throughout the script and may occasionally bring out perfunctory laughs from viewers.

Premature sound effects are imposing on a person’s sentiments and 3 Days to Kill is riddled with them.

If you have 3 hours to kill, go ahead and watch this movie.
