A doctor and and five others were arrested in connection with the abduction of a businessman on Thursday night.

The suspects Anil Kumar, 26, a resident of Kodipalya; Arun, 25, from Katriguppe; Rajesh, 25, Karaikudi, Sivaganga district, Tamil Nadu; S Manikantan, 24, Kengeri; Suguna, 31, Kodipalya; and Gita, 32, Kengeri, allegedly abducted G N Rajanna Reddy, 57, from Attibele, for ransom.

While Suguna was Reddy’s paramour, Manikantan was a doctor. Manikanta helped Suguna, the prime suspect, by lending his car to abduct Reddy, Kengeri police said.
Suguna would travel to Attibele to meet her relatives who were Reddy’s tenants. She soon befriended Reddy. On realising Reddy’s financial strength, she decided to trap him for money, police said.

She hatched a conspiracy with Gita, Arun and Anil Kumar to abduct Reddy, requesting Manikantan to lend his car, police said.

On reaching Attibele, Suguna contacted Reddy and told him to meet her near the bus stop, where he requested her to get onto his bike.

He rode towards Kaiwara where he wanted to spend a night with her in a lodge, while five others followed in Manikantan’s car, the police said.

At Kaiwara, while Manikantan and Rajesh remained in the car, Gita, Arun and Anil Kumar barged into Reddy’s room, threatened him and collected Rs 5,000 and two gold rings from him. They warned him of dire consequences if he did not pay them Rs 50 lakh, following which Reddy sought time.

The trio bundled Reddy and Suguna in the car and drove towards Kodipalya, where they snapped pictures of Reddy in seminude along with Suguna.

They then threatened that Reddy pictures would be released to the media if he failed to pay them.

Reddy called his friend Subramani to bring Rs 50 lakh near Rajarajeshwari Medical College and Hospital. Subramani, who suspected something fishy, contacted the police. Kengeri police rushed to the spot and traced a car with Reddy and others inside it and arrested the six.
