SSP cards 77, slides to 23rd

It was a nightmarish third round for SSP Chowrasia, who was unable to do anything right in blustery conditions and was blown off the course with a six-over 77 to slip from third to 23rd after the third round of the Solaire Open here on Saturday.

Chowrasia, who was six-under after two rounds, is now even-par 213 after three days. Rahil Gangjee, the only other Indian to make the cut, shot even-par 71 and moved to tied 35th at two-over 215.

Filipino star Angelo Que fired a third round two-under 69 to hold a one shot lead over a persistent Miguel Tabuena.

Sharmila misfiresIndia’s Sharmila Nicollet fell apart in the last three holes, dropping no less than four shots, to miss the cut by just one in the Lalla Meryem Cup at Agadir, Morocco, on Friday.Sharmila was close to top-25 at even par for the second round with three holes to go. But she went into a tailspin and had a bogey-double bogey-bogey finish to crash out of the tournament.

From being even par with three holes to go, she ended up at four-over 146 for 36 holes and missed the cut, which fell at three-over.

Also missing the cut was India’s other representative, Neha Tripathi, who improved to even-par 71 on second day, but the first round 77 had done enough damage to her chances.
