Hyderabad has 14-yr-old booth-level officer

Last Updated 16 March 2014, 19:18 IST

Anything could happen inside the walled city of Hyderabad.

There are instances of minor  boys lined up to vote in the Chandrayangutta  assembly segment represented by Akbaruddin Owaisi of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM),while authorities look the other way.

Poll agents of other political parties are thrashed and driven away by majlis leaders including Hyderabad MP Asaduddin himself.

This time a minor boy, Mohammad Shaik Yousuf, reported to be 14 years of age, has been appointed booth level officer in Chandrayangutta Assembly constituency.

Chief electoral officer (CEO) Bhanwar Lal on Friday ordered an investigation into the appointment of all 1,405 booth level officers (BLOs) after the glaring lapse, which was brought to his notice by a complainant.

The complainant has also alleged that many of these BLOs were affiliated to a particular political party.

The website of CEO shows the picture of a minor boy and "teacher" listed as his designation.

The CEO was acting on a complaint lodged by MIM’s arch rival in old city the Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) leader Amjedullah Khan, who claimed that at least 26 BLOs of Chandrayangutta segment were affiliated to Majlis.

He also alleged that there were many instances of ward, area sabha members and relatives of corporators serving as BLOs, which is a gross violation of rules.
