The Military Engineering Services Builders Association of India (MES-BAI) - contractors for the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) at C V Raman Nagar - has threatened to halt water and electricity works if their dues were no paid.

Around 80 contractors who have constructed laboratories and quarters for the DRDO will go on strike from Thursday protesting the alleged delay in paying their dues.

MES-BAI Chairperson Azeezuddin Khan told Deccan Herald: “We will launch the strike in front of the DRDO Research and Development Laboratory. If they don’t promise us payments, we will stop electricity and water supply and all other works. They keep telling us that money has to come from the Ministry of Defence.

But this has been said many times in the past and we have already waited for six months to get our legitimate payments.” he said. To begin with, the Bangalore-based contractors will go on strike and those at the other DRDO centres - Hyderabad, Kochi, Avadi and Vizag - will join the strike in case there is no response, he added.
