BJP dubs Cong manifesto 'document of deceit'

Last Updated 27 March 2014, 05:47 IST

The BJP on Tuesday described Congress manifesto as a “document of deceit” which was a “rank insult to people”. “It is not a manifesto but a document of deceit. It is rank insult to the people of India,” was BJP chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad’s reaction to Congress party’s manifesto released on Tuesday.

The BJP did not find any provocation in Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s charge that Narendra Modi’s balloon will explode like their India Shinning campaign in 2004.  “ Rahul had tried to be doom-sayer before Delhi assembly polls but what happened to Congress is a known fact. The fact he is not able to address political rallies and instead is relying on nukkad sabhas,” Prasad countered.

On prime minister’s attack on the BJP, Prasad replied, “I will give allowance of vocabulary to Manmohan Singh at the time of departure”. Recently inducted senior journalist MJ Akbar and Janata Dal(U) leader NK Singh also shared the dais with Prasad and treasurer Piyush Goel at the press meet held at party’s Ashoka Road headquarters.

The BJP’s critique was confined to Congress poll promise on high economic growth rate of more than 8 percent, creating 10 crore new jobs, push to manufacturing and industrial sectors and poverty elevation.

Prasad said the Congress-led UPA government had promised to provide 8 percent growth but the economy is struggling at 4 percent. In comparison, NDA government had handed over the robust economy to the Congress.

Similarly, he also drew a comparison, quoting from central government statistics to show that NDA government in six years created 6.7 crore jobs while Congress-led UPA from 2004 to 2009 managed merely 1.54 crore. The Rajya Sabha deputy leader of opposition said that the party would like to ask on what basis  is the Congress promising jobs when they destroyed the opportunity during their rule.
