As many as 17 terror camps are functional across the Pakistan border, housing 800-1,000 terrorists, who are being pushed by their handlers to enter Jammu and Kashmir with the purpose of disrupting the Lok Sabha elections.

These camps are located in four distinct clusters in the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as well as in Pakistan, reliable sources told Deccan Herald.

Intelligence reports prepared by Indian authorities suggest five of these camps are in Muzaffarabad whereas another five are in Kotli. Four camps are in Mansehra in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and two are in Pakistan's Punjab province. The last one is in Barnala of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

“At least two of these camps are within 15 km from Indian boundary and there are close to 800-1,000 Pakistani terrorists in those 17 camps,” sources said.

These camps are among the 42 terror training units, known to Indian security forces. Typically, infiltration attempts occur in March in Jammu and Kashmir. But this year, such attempts were on the lower side so far because of heavy snowfall.

As the snow began to melt, the security agencies are concerned on such movements across the border coinciding with the five-phase election in the conflict-ridden state.
