The students of the microbiology department of Oxford College of Science conducted a fest called ‘Micromania’ recently to mark the 20th anniversary of the college.

The undergraduate and postgraduate students, along with their faculty members, came together to celebrate the occasion.

The three-day fest had the students showcasing their talents and participating in cultural, academic as well sports events such as ‘creators paradise’, a greeting card competition; sureeli mehphil-antakshari etc.

Even the teachers were invited to take part in these events.

The students also presented a fashion show based on a theme.

An amalgamation of classical, semi-classical and western dance forms in the solo and group category became a huge hit among the students.

The entertaining programme enthralled both the faculty and students.

The best solo dance and group dance titles were bagged by the girls of fourth-semester MSc which added to their overall points and helped them win the rolling trophy of ‘Micromania 2014'.

Along with a host of cultural events, students also participated in many fun-filled games such as tug of war, cricket, throwball, race etc.

This was followed by ‘skill and speed’, a three-legged friendship march overcoming various hurdles.

Anjali, a student, noted that the three days were full of fun and students enjoyed every bit of the time they spent with their friends and teachers.

“I enjoyed these three days. They were a great break from academics and gave us time to bond with our friends as well as teachers. We were allowed to include our teachers in some of the games and that really helped us know our teachers better. Everyday was a different challenge. While those interested in the cultural events participated in games like antakshari, the one who like sports took part in events like tug-of-war. These three days of fun and frolic will be cherished by all of us,”
she said.

What made the event special was the fact that students were free to showcase their creativity and teachers encouraged them to do so.

Ashwini, a student, noted that many students who never took part in any of the events, came forward this time.

“It was very nice seeing them take an active part in the fest. We also saw a different side of our teachers which was a lot of fun. We had a great time and are looking forward to more such fests in future,” she said.
