Man gets stuck in lift doors, dies

A 24-year-old youth was crushed to death after he was struck between the doors of an elevator at Pride apartment complex near Bilekahalli on Bannerghatta Main Road on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Perumal, a resident of Doresanipalya and a housekeeping staff at the housing complex, police said.

The incident came to light when the residents waiting for the lift went to the sixth floor and noticed Perumal crushed to death between the doors, police said. On information, fire personnel prised open the door and retrieved the body. DCP (South) H S Revanna said apartment owners’ association has been asked to provide maintenance records of the lift. .

Two end lives

A painter and a carpenter committed suicide in separate incidents on Wednesday night.
According to the police, Abhimanyu, 34, a painter and native of Tamil Nadu, jumped off the second floor of an under-construction building and committed suicide, following a tiff with his wife.

He was a resident of Reddypalya and was living with his wife Sudha and daughter Krithika. After quarrelling with his wife, he had rushed off to his mother's house situated in the next lane. At around 12.30 am, after his mother slept, he took the extreme step.

In another incident, Mohan, 38, a resident of Thippenehalli near Doddabidarakallu, hanged himself at his residence. Mohan, a carpenter, was staying with his wife and two children. On Wednesday, he came home in an inebriated state and threw his wife and children out. He locked himself in and committed suicide.

Chains snatched

Three cases of chain-snatching were reported in the City on Thursday.
Shanthakumari, 52, of Chandra Layout, was plucking flowers in front of her house early in the morning, when two bike-borne miscreants took away her gold chain at knifepoint.

In another incident, two masked men snatched a 20 gm gold chain from Manjula, 79, of Mahalakshmi Layout, when she was standing near the gate of her house at 5.30 am.
Pillamma, 80, of Ramaiah Layout near Sudduguntepalya in Mico Layout, lost her 60-gm gold chain to unknown miscreants, at around 6.10 am, in front of her house.
