After the success of the 2012’s Avengers, where the limelight was hardly focused on Captain America (Chris Evans), a movie based on the superhero persona of Steve Rogers may at first be disconcerting.
Especially with Iron Man’s repeated attacks on Captain America and writing off the super soldier’s abilities as a mere test-tube product.

But with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, a sequel to a 2011 movie dedicated to the superhero, all initial inhibitions are almost instantly eliminated.

Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson), the director of S.H.I.E.L.D - a fictional US law-enforcement agency in the Marvel universe, encounters trouble with Captain America at the very beginning.

S.H.I.E.L.D’s plans to launch "Project Insight", complete with three satellite-linked helicarriers that can remotely eliminate threats, makes the captain question how much value the agency places in the freedom of people.  As corruption compromises S.H.I.E.L.D’s security to a point where even Fury cannot contain it, Captain America must counter Project Insight to deter the deaths of millions of people.

Understanding that there are few he can trust, the captain finds allies in a few others. Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Falcon - a former soldier specialised in aerial combat - and S.H.I.E.L.D agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders).

Meanwhile, an unidentifiable man known as Winter Soldier is on a mission to take the lives of those working against Project Insight. With an arm of metal, super strength and an insatiable bloodthirst, he proves to be Captain America’s most formidable threat.

If the absence of Iron Man, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers is felt, the movie easily makes up for it with an unpredictable storyline, high-tech gadgetry and well-placed humour.

Directors Anthony and Joe Russo have directed the movie in a way that the audience is left maximum impact, with fast-paced action sequences leaving viewers wide-eyed and with rapt attention.

Unfailingly, producer and Marvel comic book writer Stan Lee makes his signature inconspicuous appearance in the movie.

If you have watched The Avengers more than once, then Captain America: The Winter Soldier deserves at least one theatre-style viewing. Even if Marvel movies are not to your liking, this movie just might change your mind.
