Amit Shah to face arrest over 'revenge' remark

Last Updated 08 April 2014, 20:49 IST

BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's close aide and in-charge of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, Amit Shah could be arrested for his alleged remarks that the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls were 'an opportunity to take revenge for the insult' for the last year's communal riots in Muzaffarnagar.

“He (Shah) will be arrested at the appropriate time”, said UP minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) general secretary Azam Khan on Tuesday.

Two FIRs have been registered against Shah in connection with his alleged remarks in Bijnore district a few days back. “We have registered cases on the report of the SDM, Bijnore...the matter is being investigated”', said a senior police official.

“It is a question of honour for us...the elections have given you (people) an opportunity to take revenge for the insult inflicted on us...those who had committed injustice must be taught a lesson”, Shah had reportedly said at the meeting on Thursday.
