A 24-year-old man was nabbed for allegedly smuggling sophisticated weapons into Delhi and NCR. Three semi-automatic and two country-made pistols were recovered from a specially crafted cavity in the rear door of his SUV.

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police had learnt that the accused Gautam would be arriving at Bhalswa Dairy in outer Delhi in a white Mahindra Bolero to deliver a consignment of illegal arms.

A trap was laid on Sunday and the vehicle driven by Gautam was stopped and searched.

“Initially, we found nothing suspicious in the vehicle and thought we received wrong information. But someone in the police team suddenly felt the inner panel of the car’s rear door was abnormal. On removing it, we found five pistols hidden in the cavity,” a cop said.

Gautam was arrested and a case was registered under the Arms Act. Police said these weapons were meant to be supplied to criminals in Delhi and were sourced from Mainpuri in UP, where Gautam allegedly is a part of a gang dealing in supply of illegal arms.

He was also arrested less than a month ago under the Arms Act. But he allegedly continued supplying arms after being released on bail.
