Modi a tried, tested and trusted leader: Ananth

BJP national general secretary H N Ananth Kumar said that three states, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Bihar, are likely to play a key role in helping the BJP form a government at the Centre.

The party hopes to get 45 seats in Uttar Pradesh, more than 20 seats in Karnataka and Bihar, respectively.

Speaking with mediapersons here on Friday, he said, “Our prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, has held 13 rallies in the State and four more are yet to take place. Even if the BJP gets 272 seats, it would form the NDA government, taking its allies together.”

Terming the 2014 elections as phenomenal, he said, this time, the anti-Congress wave was evident even in the South and expressed confidence that the BJP, along with its allies, PMK, MDMK and others in Tamil Nadu, will do better.

He alleged that the Congress had failed to announce its prime ministerial candidate as it was not confident of its victory. Calling Prime Minister Manmohan Singh a “night watchman,” he said the citizens were fed up with the UPA government and therefore, supported Modi for better governance, since he was a tried, tested and trusted leader in Gujarat. On Modi’s marriage, Kumar said it was a personal matter and that he (Modi) had never hidden it.

Asked why Modi was contesting from Vadodara and Varanasi, he said almost all the former prime ministers, including Indira Gandhi, Atal Behari Vajpayee and Jawaharlal Nehru, used to contest from two constituencies. It is an electoral strategy to garner the support of voters from various states, he added.
