Sexual minorities in KNP+ network

Last Updated 06 December 2009, 17:42 IST

The programme discussed issues faced by these two marginalised groups and to train HIV peer educators to absorb them in the mainstream positive networks at district and state-levels, said KNP+ president Saroja Putran.

Nearly 50 HIV positive people from 27 districts along with 15 FSWs and about 16 MSMs (men having sex with men) from all across the State have taken part in the convention.
Speaking on the problems faced by MSMs, Narasimha Murthy from Sadhane, an NGO, said many transgenders and MSMs committed suicide because of social stigma and police harassment. Usha, an HIV positive sex worker said, “Sex workers have to wait for hours at ART centres to get medicine. As a result, they lose out on business for that day.

The KHPT will be organising workshops to sensitise staff at Women and Child Development and Food and Civil Supplies departments, early next year.
