They were urging the authorities concerned to take action against a private educational institution, which was levying additional fees from every student in the pretext of improving results.

Apart from the members of the Vedike, several parents also took part in the protest and extended their support to the cause.

This educational institution also collected exorbitant donation from students, the protesters alleged. Also, the educational institute, without seeking the permission of the Education Department, had begun a residential hostel for the students, in order to improve the quality of education.

The institution was also fleecing parents by levying an amount of Rs 4,000 from every student, in this regard, the protesters complained. And even after collecting so much amount from them, it was sad to note that the students were not provided with proper food. The inmates were fed with only biscuits and buns and were exploited at the hostel, the parents stated.

Unhygeinic conditions

The conditions in the hostel were not hygienic and the quality of food served was not upto the mark. Sometimes, cockroaches and insects are also discovered in the cooked food. And to make matters worse, the students were threatened not to inform all this at their homes, the protesters alleged.

In the pretext of providing quality education, the students were only being treated like the inmates of a prison.

Students confined

The students were confined in these hostels, the members complained and sought stringent action against the institute. Inspite of all these problems, the protesters were angry to note that the block education officer was silent over the issue.

Leaders Vijaykumar Shetty, Maruthi, Nandeesh, President of the Women’s Unit of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Sujathamma Manjunath and several others office-bearers took part in the protest.
