Hanumantharayappa (40) of Kallur village, his wife Basamma (35) and Narasegowda (38) are the deceased, while their son Shivanna, son-in-law Revanasiddaiah and lorry driver Susheelan of Gundya village in Dakshina Kannada’s Puttur taluk are battling for their lives.

Magadi police said the accident occurred near Jyothipalya Gate around 5 am. The tractor, laden with areca nut, was going towards Magadi from Kallur village and when a Bangalore-bound lorry, laden with stones, collided with it, apparently due to rash and negligent driving by the lorry driver.

The road near Jyothipalya Gate was laid at a cost of Rs one crore recently, but a part of it has been damaged leading to frequent accidents. Magadi police have registered a case.
