JOIN USS Boopathy of Tamil Nadu and Richa D Chougule of Maharashtra completed a grand double in the boys’ and girls’ sections respectively in the KTPPA-AITA National Series under-12 tennis tournament at the Tennis Village courts here on Saturday.
The second-seeded Boopathy upset top seed Dev Javia of Gujarat 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3 in the final to clinch the singles title to go with his doubles crown that he won partnering Mahesh Mohapatra of Orissa on Friday.
Richa, who was seeded 11th, capped off her fine run, beating top seed Mubashira Anjum Shaik of Andhra Pradesh 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the girls singles final.
The Pune girl earlier had won the doubles title with her state-mate Prernra Vichare.
The boys final, which lasted close to 170 minutes, was an engrossing affair as the hard hitting Boopathy was truly tested by a defensive but canny Javia. In the decider, Boopathy, who waited for the right openings, seized his chance to end Dev’s challenge.
