Two men were caught and beaten up by passersby off Tannery Road on Sunday night while they were running away after allegedly assaulting a traffic constable on duty, police said.

Three men — Syed Asim, Nafees Hussain and Mubarak — allegedly assaulted D S Raju, a constable attached to Pulakeshinagar traffic police station, on Davis Road, off Tannery Road.

The suspects, who were riding motorcycles, got enraged after Raju took their pictures for violating the no-entry rule. They allegedly attempted to deter him. They are said to have abused him, making “vulgar, provocative” gestures at him, and run away, police claimed.

Raju, however, did not let them off. He chased them on his bike and managed to waylay them. The trio then assaulted him and sped off but some alert passersby caught them. They beat up Asim and Hussain while Mubarak managed to speed off.

The two suspects were later handed over to police who booked them for assaulting a policeman on duty and obstructing him from discharging his lawful duty. All the three suspects are from KG Halli.

Raju was taken to a hospital which discharged him after giving him first aid, police added.

Woman’s chain snatched

Two unidentified men snatched a homemaker’s gold chain worth Rs one lakh while she was cleaning the area outside her home on Nagappa Road under Vyalikaval police station limits early on Monday morning.

Ishwari was cleaning the area outside her home at 3rd Cross, P G Halli, Nagappa Road when an unidentified young man walked to her around 5.30 am, asking for an address. He gave her a piece of paper on which the address was written down.

Just as Ishwari looked into the chit, the youth snatched her chain and ran to his accomplice who was waiting for him on a motorcycle at the end of the lane. The duo vanished in no time, police said.
