The meeting was held under the presidentship of Council President P D Ponnappa. When the ruling party decided to provide 8 per cent extra to the contractors, the opposition members flayed it.
Congress member T M Ayyappa and Abdul Razak said that the tender called to provide 8 per cent additional fund for the contractors is illegal and with this, it is not possible to safeguard the quality of work and hence calling for re-tender is a must.
MLC M C Nanaiah said that completing the works by providing additional funds is incorrect from the point of view of well being of the council. Further, since the monsoon will set in soon, calling for a re-tender and carrying on the work after the monsoon will be better. The council agreed to this and also resolved to put an end to the sub contract model of work that has been going on in the city.

Home stay

The council resolved not to provide water supply to home stays by tankers. Member Chummi Devaiah, Muneer Ahmed and others said that the contractors have been supplying water to people according to their wish due to which water is getting wasted.
Nanaiah said that no water must be supplied to the home stays by tankers. “Since the common people of the region are facing scarcity of drinking water, there is no need to provide water to home stays which is run with commercial aims,” he said. This was approved by the House.
He further directed the council to take steps to start eviction drive to remove off all the illegal scrap shops that have been cropping up in the city.
