A property dealer was attacked with a sharp object and sticks by over half a dozen assailants in west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar on Sunday evening. The victim has been admitted to a private hospital where his condition is said to be serious.

A senior police officer said the accused have been identified and one person has been detained. According to the victim Rajesh Sachdeva family’s complaint to police, he was involved in a property dispute with one Praveen who lives in the same area and is also a property dealer.

The dispute was regarding the construction of a building that was allegedly delayed by Praveen.

The dispute had reached police in the past too, but a compromise had been reached. But on Sunday evening, the suspects allegedly reached Sachdeva's office and attacked him. “Apart from sticks, they used a sharp object used to drill holes in cardboard paper to attack him,” said the officer.

The accused fled from the spot after they believed that the injuries inflicted on him were grave enough to cause his death.

To keep locals away from nabbing them, they also allegedly fired in the air while escaping from the spot in H-Block of Mohan Garden.

Police at Uttam Nagar station have registered a case of attempt to murder and have detained one person for questioning. The officer said police are hoping to arrest some persons in the next 24 hours.
