Congress links Modi to hawala operator

A day after the BJP released a video targeting Robert Vadra, the Congress hit back at Narendra Modi on Monday by linking him to an alleged hawala operator.

In a tit-for-tat, the Congress, at its regular media briefing, released several photographs of a man called Afroz Fatta and the Gujarat chief minister together at social and official functions.

AICC spokesman Randeep Surjewala said Fatta was raided last month by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with Rs 700 crore hawala transactions. Surjewala described Fatta as a “well-known BJP supporter and a protégé of Modi.”

The Congress leader said the photographs, in which Modi and Fatta are seen together, were taken from the websites of the Gujarat unit of the BJP and that of the Gujarat chief minister. The Congress has demanded that Modi come clean on his links with Fatta and be ready to face an independent probe into the matter.

“Shouldn’t Modi and the BJP disclose the nature of their relationship with Fatta to the people of India?” Surjewala asked.

There were reports that BJP general secretary and Modi confidant Amit Shah had shared a photograph of Fatta with Congress MP Md Azharuddin on Twitter as a response to the Congress attack.

However, ABP News said on its Twitter handle that Shah had removed the photograph in question.

The allegations against Modi came a day after the BJP released a video film titled “Daamaad Shree”, targeting Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
