A mob ransacked a resort in the City after a 10-year-old boy allegedly drowned in the resort’s  swimming pool on Thursday afternoon.

According to police, Suryakanth Jagadev had come to Tulip resort along with his parents to enjoy his holiday. He went for a swim in the pool along with his father Bhaskar Jagadev, an employee with a private company and a resident of Wilson Garden.

After some time, the parents went to have lunch while Suryakanth insisted that he would play in the kid’s swimming pool.

After their lunch, the parents found their son missing. Later, he was found floating in the pool meant for adults. With the help of the resort staff, they pulled the child from the pool and found that he was not breathing. They then rushed him to a hospital nearby, where he was declared brought dead, the police said.

The parents blamed negligence of resort management for the death of their son. They alleged that the local police didn’t respond when they tried to lodge a complaint. The parents and relatives went back to the resort with the body on Friday morning and staged a protest while a mob went berserk ransacking the resort.

On information, police rushed to the spot, pacified the mob and registered a case of negligence against the management of the resort, said a police official.

The resort management has also lodged a complaint alleging that the mob had damaged their property worth about Rs 25 lakh.

A staffer at the resort said that the child might have strayed from kids’ swimming pool resulting in his drowning.

The body was handed over to the parents after the post-mortem.
