Parking mafia has been plaguing the corporations’ efforts to generate more revenue. A case in point is Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, where a private contractor is taking double parking fee.

The area, which connects ITO crossing to Daryaganj, comes under the South Delhi Municipal Corporation.

A senior official with the civic agency said that the office-goers in the area complained against the contractor, Ranbir Singh Rathi, that he fleeces them. “So we removed the contactor,” the official said.

When Deccan Herald went to the service road at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, a parking attendant asked for Rs 20 to park a four-wheeler. Asked about who is your contractor, he said, “I work with the municipal corporation.”

But Commissioner of South Corporation Manish Gupta said that the civic body has not deployed any new contractor.

“If somebody is taking money in the name of the corporation, then traffic police should look into the matter and take appropriate action,” Gupta added.

“We have removed the contractor and no new contractor has been deployed by the south civic agency.”

The corporation’s parking rate is Rs 10 for a four-wheeler for 6 to 8 hours and Rs 5 for a two-wheeler.

Sources in the corporation said that the expelled contractor continues to control the parking area.

The contractor of Shahid Park outside Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium is still Ranbir Singh Rathi. During IPL matches the rates rises up to Rs 100.

When Deccan Herald went to the parking lot at around 1 pm on Wednesday, an attendant said, “Now we are taking Rs 100 for parking a car. We give a slip which has Rs 50 printed on it but we take Rs 100. The rates increase as the time of the starting of match gets close.”

There was an IPL match between Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium on Wednesday.
