As many as 1,085 candidates appeared for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) in the City on Sunday for entry into top law colleges in the country.

Out of the 1,177 who registered to take the LLB (Bachelors of Laws) or undergraduate test, only 1,003 ultimately appeared for it. On the other hand, of the 105 who registered for LLM (Masters of Laws) or postgraduate test, only 82 appeared.

Rough estimates suggest that the total number of students who appeared for the test throughout the country was 35,000. While the UG test is for 200 marks, the PG test is for 150 marks. Although the undergraduate test was more or less easy for students, a number of them found the section on general knowledge and current affairs quite tough.

Deepak Solanki travelled all the way from Hyderabad to write the test.

“I found the test to be very easy and actually felt confident while writing it. However, the section on general knowledge and current affairs was quite difficult. I hope to get  30 to 35 marks, out of the total 50 marks in the section. Overall, a score of 130 marks is what I am looking at,” he said. A commerce student, Deepak wants to get into the NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad.

For Nandini Dhananjay Shinde, except for the section on general knowledge, the paper was ‘very easy’.

“I will not be surprised if a number of candidates do very well in the test. The section on general knowledge did not go very well for me. However, others like legal aptitude were okay. I hope to score around 130 to 135,” she said. Nandini, who gave the test last year too, is presently studying at Symbiosis Law School, Pune.

“I am in one of the top seven law colleges in the country. I am giving the test so that I get into any of the top five,” said Nandini.
