A 35-year-old man riding a bike to his home was crushed to death by a truck after he allegedly jumped the traffic signal. The truck driver was arrested immediately.

The incident took place at a traffic signal in north-east Delhi’s Shastri Park area on Saturday night. The victim Faizan was headed to his home on his motorcycle at about 10:30 pm. He had come for some work to Shastri Park.

“Eyewitnesses have told us that Faizan was jumping the red light when he was hit by a truck approaching from another direction,” a police officer told Deccan Herald.

The truck driver chose not to flee from the spot and instead parked his vehicle by the road side. Suman, 24, was caught by the public and handed over to a police team which had received a call from one of the commuters. His truck too was seized.

Faizan suffered injuries to his head which proved fatal. Police said he died on the spot. The body has been sent for post-mortem.

“Suman was not drunk at the time of the accident. Preliminary investigations show the motorcycle rider was at fault,” said the officer.

Faizan ran a shop in north Delhi’s Azad Market area and lived in the area with his wife and three children.
