BJP sweeps Jharkhand bagging 13 seats

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) continued its winning streak even in Jharkhand where it romped home in 13 out of 14 Lok Sabha constituencies.

The only face-saver for the saffron camp’s opponents was Dumka constituency, where Jharkhand Mukti Morcha chief Shibu Soren won from the tribal seat.

Notably, his son Hemant Soren is the Chief Minister of Jharkhand and running the coalition government in alliance with the Congress and the RJD.

However, neither the Congress nor the RJD could open their accounts, with former Union minister Subodh Kant Sahay himself losing the Ranchi seat to BJP’s Ram Tahal Choudhary.

In neighbouring Hazaribagh, Yashwant Sinha’s son Jayant Sinha, making his poll debut from his father’s well-nursed constituency, trounced Congress nominee Saurabh Narayan Singh.

In another surprise, former DGP of Jharkhand V D Ram, who was BJP candidate from Palamu won from the reserved constituency.

However, former IPS officer and Jamshedpur MP in the outgoing House, Ajay Kumar, lost as Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) candidate from the Steel City to BJP’s Vidyut Charan Mahto by over one lakh votes.

The JVM president and former chief minister of Jharkhand Babulal Marandi too lost from Dumka.
