The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police on Saturday searched the office of the COMEDK at Malleswaram, in connection with the investigation into the fake student racket.

According to a senior police official, the office was searched after obtaining a warrant from the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court. He said the CCB sleuths took possession of several documents pertaining to the COMEDK tests.

“We have got whatever is required for the investigation. We are in the process of ascertaining involvement of more students in the racket. Suitable action will be initiated against impersonators once the documents are verified and the investigation is completed,” he said.

Another senior police officer said that people involved in the scam would be arested soon after the scrutiny of the documents seized from the COMEDK office.

Police custody

He said that the ‘students’ already arrested have been remanded in police custody till May 21. However, he refused to disclose more information in the interest of investigation.

COMEDK secretary S Kumar said that it was not a raid and that the sleuths were verifying all the 97,000 applications for its test. “It takes time to go through those many applications. The verification is still on,” he said.
