Drive against drunk driving

In an attempt to create awareness on road safety standards and put an end to drunk driving, the City traffic police organised special drives at 97 places on Saturday and Sunday night.

As part of the drive, the police checked drivers of as many as 5784 vehicles including 10 trucks, 37 autorickshaws, 53 cars, 320 bikes, 12 cabs, 2 goods vehicles and13 tempo travellers.

Of them, 452 were found to be drunk.

Most cases occurred in Peenya with as many as 76 drivers being booked. Alcohol content in the blood of three violators at Rajajinagar, Chamarajpet and KS Layout was a whopping 550 mgdl, said the police.

The police have decided to write to the transport authorities recommending suspension of driving licences of the violators.
