After the BSP failed to get any of its candidates into the Lok Sabha, party supremo Mayawati, while dissolving all committees of its state unit, warned leaders against “hotel culture” and asked them to work at the grassroot level.

At a review meeting with losing nominees here, Mayawati reportedly sacked several coordinators for their inability to gauge the public mood accurately.

According to BSP leaders who were present at the meeting, the BSP supremo spoke to every candidate and sought to know the possible reasons that led to its defeat in the recently-concluded general elections.

Sources in the BSP said Mayawati was particularly sore with the senior party leadership, which was entrusted with the responsibility of organising the political campaign and reaching out to the electorate in the state.

They added that BSP chief Ram Achal Rajbhar, as well as other senior functionaries, could face the axe in the next few days.

“There was anger among the people against the Akhilesh Yadav government for its failure on the law and order front, but we failed to capitalise on it,” a BSP leader said.
