A City-based football player’s organs were donated after he was declared brain-dead in a road accident recently.

Twenty-four-year-old V Bhasker was a player for the BDFA ‘A’ Division side AGORC. His organs were retrieved at Suguna Hospital in Rajajinagar in the City on Wednesday where his kidneys, liver and heart valves were donated. This was the 80th cadaver donation coordinated by Zonal Coordination Committee of Karnataka for Transplantation (ZCCK).

During the process, TTK Blood Bank team, retrieval team of forensic sciences department at Victoria Hospital and staff from Rajajinagar traffic police station had co-ordinated to execute the transplantation.

V Bhasker (24) lost control while driving a four-wheeler and met with an accident and was admitted to a hospital in Ooty on May 11, 2014.

He was discharged against medical advice and was taken to a private hospital in Bangalore.

He was declared brain-dead by a team of doctors after which the family decided to donate his organs.

Bhasker’s brother Harish said that he was not aware of organ donation, but after his friend advised him that Bhasker’s organs could be donated to those who are waiting for donation, the family agreed. “My brother was a big football fan and was coaching school students. He loved dogs and wanted to do something for animal care,” he added.
