Why spoil your complexion with cosmetics, when you can flaunt a bare clear skin? All you need to do is follow some simple instructions to care for the largest organ of your body, avows Priyanka Tyagi

Leading a full-on professional life, even while maintaining a family, is no easy feat. It gives little time to spare any attention to your skin.

While the basics of skin care may be no-brainers, most women simply ignore it. Instead, they deck themselves up with loads of make-up to keep up their prim and professional look at work. Why spoil your complexion  with cosmetics, when you can flaunt a clear skin?

All you need to do is follow some basic and simple instructions to care for your skin.

Internal check

* Keep yourself well hydrated; drink plenty of water. Water will keep your skin cells alive and moisturised. Thereby, ensuring that the stress of everyday life doesn’t show on your skin. Also, as the continuous exposure to air conditioners can lead to dehydration, it is important to consume water/liquids at regular intervals.

* It is highly important to have a healthy and balanced diet. Avoid fried and spicy foods, or at least limit consuming them to once in one or two weeks. But if you can, do avoid them altogether. You could try switching to healthier options - baked or dry-roasted foods.

External block

* Protecting your skin from the harmful environment is really important. There’s a lot of travelling, on work, involved these days. So wear a good sun block all the time. Sun block not only protects you from harmful rays of the sun, but also from pollution.

* If you must use a lipstick or lip balm, ensure it is of premium quality and that it contains SPF.

* Every woman desires a free-flowing, healthy hair, before zooming off to the workplace. Don’t forget to apply a hair serum after shampooing and conditioning, to protect your precious mane from the harmful rays of the sun. Rinse your hair with beer once a week to add more volume to it.

Daily routine

* After a shower in the morning, apply a moisturiser with SPF. It is advisable to use a moisturiser which is long-lasting. There are emulsions available these days which keep the skin moisturised for upto 24 hours. That would save you the trouble of re-application and also keep your skin healthy.

* Cleanse your face with a mild soap or a facewash, after you are back from work. This will remove all dirt, dust and impurities as well as help your skin to breathe.

* A working woman hardly ever gets time to care for her skin in the morning. So, it is necessary to use a night cream, preferably an anti-ageing one, which would repair the cellular damage and rejuvenate the skin.

Regular maintenance

* Exfoliate your skin every two weeks, with a cleanser with glycolic acid, or a mild scrub. This will remove dead skin cells. You may also apply masks as per your skin type to calm down the skin, maintaining its elasticity.

* With the increased pollution and sedentary lifestyle, acne is a very common skin problem. Take out 15-minutes of your precious time to apply natural face packs once a week. Simply rub a piece of fruit (banana works like a charm) on your skin and leave it on for 15 minutes and wash it off thoroughly.

Quick tips

* Before going to office, use oil-based cleansers on your face, daily. You can try this trick to make your face look naturally glowing and gorgeous.

* Use a highlight pencil on your eyebrows. This will make your eyes look more prominent.

* Take four tablespoons of rose water and mix it with honey. Apply it on your face, massage gently, and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. It can make your skin look as if you’ve just had a facial done.
