KBA to set up book lovers' clubs in State

The Kannada Book Authority (KBA) will soon set up a Book Lovers’ Club in every district in the state.

Speaking at a press conference here on Friday, Chairman of KBA, Dr Banjagere Jayaprakash, said the idea to start a club has been proposed to bring together all book lovers under one roof.

He said: “The members of the club will not just write and publish works, but will strive to revive the culture and literary circles in district. Each club will be given a fund of Rs one lakh.” He also said that 30 Kannada book outlets in each of the district in the State would be set up.

“Sales and exhibitions of books will be held in Bangalore and also in Mangalore, Mysore, Hubli, Gulbarga, among others, for five days at the divisional-level. In addition to this, young authors’ conference,  literary discussions and cultural programs will be held. A total of Rs 50 lakh has been allotted for these programmes,” he said.  

KBA officials said the authority had chalked out various programmes and activities at a cost of Rs 3.90 crore for the overall development of book industry this year.
