Cong MLA suspended for attacking Rahul

Last Updated 01 June 2014, 20:31 IST

The Congress on Sunday suspended Rajasthan MLA Bhanwar Lal Sharma for attacking party vice-president Rahul Gandhi and blaming him for the party’s dismal performance in the national election.

The decision was taken by the party High Command in New Delhi and conveyed to the PCC by state in-charge Guru Das Kamat.

Sharma had called the Gandhi scion as the “MD of Congress circus” and his advisors a “bunch of jokers” who together destroyed the party.

“Sharma has been suspended from the party for making derogatory remarks against top leaders and Rahul Gandhi in public domain. It was an act of severe indiscipline and no party can tolerate such nonsense. Decision was taken after Sharma was found engaged in anti-party activities,” said Archana Sharma, PCC spokesperson.

However, even after the suspension, Sharma continued his anti-Gandhi tirade. Immediately after his suspension, he said that he is not afraid of such actions because whatever he said was true.  He also vowed to continue his anti-Gandhi crusade till the family loses its influence on the party.

“They should remember that an uncontrolled bull is always dangerous. Whatever I said was true. I will continue to fight against them till their influence ends from the party. Since morning I am getting a lot of phone calls, even from outside the country, but no one can deter me from my path,” said Sharma.

Sources said the continuous attacks by Sharma had increased the pressure on the party leadership to suspend him.
