<p>The State government has set a deadline of two months for officials of the Social Welfare Department to identify government or private land for construction of government-run residential schools.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Addressing a press conference in Bangalore, Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya said that of the 545 Morarji Desai and Kittur Rani Chennamma residential schools, as many as 261 have been housed in rented buildings.<br /><br />Anjaneya said officials have been instructed to identify land in their respective districts within two months. The land would be utilised to provide permanent buildings for residential schools, he said.<br /><br />The minister said officials would be suspended if they failed to identify land. Replying to a question, Anjaneya said the government would appoint the chairman for the permanent backward classes commission within a month.<br /></p>
