Fugly
Hindi (U/A) *
Cast: Jimmy Shergill, Mohit Marwah, Kiara Advani, Vijender Singh, Arfi Lamba
Director: Kabir Sadanand

A metropolitan city, its youngsters living the fast life, and in the process getting mixed up in all things illegal. We have seen innumerable such films. Not to mention entire TV shows! So why would one want to see another film on the same lines?

Kabir Sadanand should have asked himself that question before directing “Fugly”. It could have at least given viewers a little better cinema, if not getting the entire project shelved., saving them a lot of headache in the process.

Jimmy Shergill is still good as the crooked cop does, but far from his best in similar roles. Among the four friends, Kiara Advani shows promise, Mohit Marwah a little less so. Arfi Lamba is not entirely convincing as the sniveller every group has.

As for Vijender, it is rumoured that he dropped the “Kumar” from his name to replace it with “Singh” to promote the Akshay Kumar-starrer “Singh is Kinng”. The acting bug’s bite is still holding its effect, but it would be better if the boxer had same limelight-worthy talent too.

The music composers join hands with the makers to sponsor the audience’s trips to the barber or reimburse them for hair extensions, because the songs and their visualisation make people tear their hair out. The same goes for the screenplay and dialogue writers as well as the sound guys: There’s no sparkling give-and-take, and even if there was, the audience wouldn’t hear it.

The continuity and plot holes are numerous enough to sink this ship, no matter how hard the director steers it.
